We are happy to announce that UnidosUS is now accepting applications for the 2023 Helen Rodríguez-Trías Health Award! To celebrate the 20th-year anniversary of the Helen Rodríguez-Trías Health Award launch, UnidosUS will award a $20,000 cash prize to one Affiliate organization that demonstrates exemplary community strategies centering on health equity.
To be considered for the 2023 Helen Rodríguez-Trías Health Award, all applicants must submit their applications using this electronic form by April 28, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. ET. Fact Sheet: "Additional Work Requirements in SNAP Would Hurt Latino Families"
As Congress moves toward consideration of raising the debt ceiling and the Farm Bill, House Republicans have revived calls for work requirements for families receiving SNAP.
Using the threat of reaching the debt ceiling as leverage, House Republicans hope to vote this week on a debt ceiling bill that will slash SNAP spending by expanding already harsh work requirements to parents of children ages 7 and up and to older Americans ages 50 to 64. About 4 million school-age children and 2 million older Americans live in households that face these cuts.
