UnidosUS to Launch New Youth Voter Campaign to Boost Latino Turnout

“Power of 18” aimed at reaching new voters at a critical time for Latinos

March 16, 2018

Washington, DC—UnidosUS (formerly NCLR) will launch the Power of 18, a new youth voter engagement campaign designed to energize and mobilize the Latino community, especially young Latinos, on Wednesday, March 21 during its 2018 Leaders in Action Summit, which will be held at the Capital Hilton on March 21–22.

The campaign builds on UnidosUS’s long history of voter outreach, with a focus on a growing and influential demographic: young Latinos. Young Latino voters are a force to be reckoned with; according to the Pew Research Center, an average of 800,000 Latino citizens turn 18 and become eligible to vote each year. But despite the undeniable political power this demographic can wield, voter turnout continues to lag among young Latinos due to all-too-common barriers including lack of public awareness about the registration process and language barriers.

Through a targeted digital outreach campaign and an online registration web portal, the initiative will aim to mobilize a group that is well-informed yet often overlooked. Latino youth are a large untapped voting bloc whose concerns, if registered at the polls, could transform the political landscape for years to come.

A panel discussion titled “The Road Ahead: A Conversation with Youth Leaders on the Challenges and Opportunities in 2018” that explores youth activism and community organizing will precede the press conference. Media are invited to cover the event.

Interested media should RSVP to Gabriela Gomez at or (202) 776-1732.
