UnidosUS President and CEO Janet Murguía Says ‘Trump Must Be Removed from Office’

‘We cannot afford to wait … while he further schemes to destroy our democracy and institutions’

January 7, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC—In response to the violence at the U.S. Capitol yesterday by extremist supporters of President Donald Trump, UnidosUS President and CEO Janet Murguía issued the following statement:

“Yesterday, the President of the United States instigated an insurrection not only at the Capitol, but on the foundations of our democracy. His actions are un-American and do not reflect the values the overwhelming majority of Americans stand for. This is a dark day for our nation, and one of the lowest moments in our country’s history.

“The last 48 hours have proven what many of us have been warning against for the last four years: that Donald J. Trump is a clear and present danger to our democracy. And the amount of damage he could continue to do to this country on his way out the door is incalculable. As such, the risk of waiting two more weeks is too great and we strongly urge that the Cabinet or Congress remove Donald Trump from office immediately, whether through the 25th Amendment or impeachment.”
